You Can Thank The U.S. Department of Education

Unbeknownst to most Americans, the U S. Department of Education is a critical to the success of many citizens of this great nation. Without them, many Americans would have never accomplished their educational goals and financial dreams. That’s why we would be remiss if we didn’t talk about the agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education and others that work behind the scenes to insure our educational success.

What Is the U.S. Department of Education?

The U S. Department of Education is the agency of the federal government that: establishes policy for, administers, and coordinates most federal assistance to education. It assists the president of the United States in executing his education policies for the nation and in implementing laws enacted by Congress.

What is Their Mission and Purpose?

The Department's mission is to serve America's students, to ensure that all have equal access to education and to promote excellence in our nation's schools. In 1979, when Congress passed Public Law 96-88, creating the Department, it declared these purposes:

To strengthen the federal commitment to ensuring access to equal educational opportunity for every individual

The U S. Department of Education is keenly interested in reducing bias, both overt and covert, that impedes anyone from obtaining an education. The department believes that everyone has a right to quality education.

To supplement and complement the efforts of states, the local school systems and other instrumentalities of the states, the private sector, public and private educational institutions, public and private nonprofit educational research institutions, community-based organizations, parents, and students to improve the quality of education

Without the US Department of Education, the quality of education in our country would most likely be a dismal failure. Due to their efforts, our tax money and Congress, the United States probably has one of the best educational backbones in the world.

To encourage the increased involvement of the public, parents, and students in federal education programs

Since its inception, the US Department of Education has used Federal educational programs and federal financial aid to assist millions in achieving their dreams. Isn’t it time for you to reap the benefits of their mission and purpose?

To promote improvements in the quality and usefulness of education through federally supported research, evaluation, and sharing of information

When you think about many of the major accomplishments in this world such as the Computer, hybrid vehicles, nuclear submarines, the space shuttle and the Internet… they all have one common denominator; education was the impetus for their discovery.

To improve the coordination of federal education programs

The emphasis with the US Department of Education is teamwork and unity.

To improve the management and efficiency of federal education activities, especially with respect to the process, procedures, and administrative structures for the dispersal of federal funds, as well as the reduction of unnecessary and duplicative burdens and constraints, including unnecessary paperwork, on the recipients of federal funds

It seems as though each year, the process of applying for a student loan and receiving financial aid is becoming more streamlined. The reason is due to the US Department of Education’s mission to constantly improve the process involved with obtaining student loans.
